Nation Media Museum

Today I visited the nation Media museum in Bradford.

Along the way I found in depth research on animation, film and photography.
Below I have attached imagines from my visit.

I found the original ideas on kaleidoscope animations, the Internet success and some work on target audience as well as types of lighting and images which I think will enhance my understanding for my music video, web design and digipack. On the walk I saw how kaleidoscope originally happened and different ways of them being created.

During independent walking I came across an Internet collection that explain what people expect to see on social networks and websites, to break through successfully is to take a different approach to shock people. Across the production set I worked how to use some of  the equipment being set up cams on a tripod dolly which I will be using in my music video. Looking at some of the equipment also developed my knowledge of technical research and to see if I can get hold of other equipment online or to rent them out for my filming. It has also given me a step forward in how to use the camera on a tripod doll and what the procedures of production would be like if I had worked in a group. I had also worked on a blue screen so even though I may not include this in my music video I have also worked how to use one just in case I do.

During the insight tour it was explained how to use three point lighting in different ways to create different emotions in a video.

The Pitch Feedback

Whilst I presented my pitch I had my audience point out strengths and weaknesses about my pitch and my video ideas.

My strength feedback:

I had shown clear time and effort into knowing my target audience and my song choice. I also had a visual idea of how I wanted my video to look like and shown it across in my pitch for my audience to understand. They also said that I had gone into depth by showing how I wanted my models to look via makeup and style through my pinterest inspiration.

My weakness feedback:

Including minor typing errors in the pitch, I had not explained a narrative enough well enough compared to my animations. I also has not included a animatic in my pitch either so the audience didn't have a great deal to understand what I was explaining in depth.

Animation Development

As I had not had much experience I taught myself how to create the kaleidoscope animation for my music video. The following videos will include how I created the kaleidoscope animation and the flash edit on the smoke and the final product of both of them. In both videos I have chosen parts of my chosen song that they will appear in. Of course they will feature in more than what is in the video but the transition of scenes will be uploaded in weeks to come.

In the first two videos, they took me longer as After Effects creates the animation for you and then offered different styles of the animation. I added the part of the song it best worked with for that moment of time. After developing skill in this area I will apply this in my music video. The original video was ink dropping into water, so I will use the same idea so it is recycling my recordings from other parts of the music video.

In the final two videos I started from the beginning on how to add a flash effect. Even though in my final trial that I uploaded, I know there wasn't enough pace so when it comes to producing my music video I will including more of the flashes depending on the pace of the song. I will also being using this in my music video.

These are the video for kaleidoscope animations.

Technical Research

Here is a checklist for what equipment is used for music videos.

  • Steady Cam
  • Tripod Dolly
  • Jib Crib
  • Light Reflector
  • Green Screen
  • Three-Piont Lighting Kit
  • Camera Light
  • Tripod
  • Video Camera
Equipment in higher quality of music videos are provides to create smooth and bright videos. The standard use of steady cam and a tripod doll allows continuous shots to be taken and without the distraction of somebody's hands shaking. Light reflectors and three point lighting its are available to get rid on shadows and rough looking exposure in images.

Here is a checklist for the equipment that I will be able to access for my music video.

  • Video Camera
  • Tripod
  • Camera Light
  • Green Screen
  • Tripod Dolly
  • Steady Cam
  • Three Point Lighting
  • Light Reflector

Explaining what my chosen equipment is for.

My video camera will be used to film the video as they will be filming in HD. The tripod and tripod dolly are used to create easy movement in parts like my narrative where movement needs to be smooth it also stops any movement of shaking when holding the camera. The green screen will be used in the close ups of the people singing to create a clear background like in the screenshots below of other music videos. Camera light will be mobile through the music video  to create different effects and shadows, it will also be used in the camera editing for extra light setting. The three point lighting and the light reflector are used to make sure that all parts of the music video and images for the website and digipack to make them look as professional as I can. The steady cam is used to continuous shot with no shake of the camera naturally. This will be used throughout my narrative and for close up shots of the female body.

These are some examples of how the equipment can be used in music videos:

Digi Pack Mock-Up

This is the front cover of the album, I have chosen a close up of lips because it creates a sexual appeal and that is a key concept in my chosen genre. I have stuck to the colour red as this is colour through connotation the colour red is linked to sex, lust and romance.

Next to the CD, this image will appear inside of the digi pack. So it is not seen on the outside. In earlier research i have picked up on how many of the artists will hide the majority of their face with darker lighting and shadows. So in this designed image i have chose to follow this idea that appears so frequently in the genre between males and females. The artist will be wearing something red to symbolise lust.

The CD will have a smoke like effect that only goes across one half of the CD mixed with the colour black and red. As this effect will feature in the music video. I have chosen to keep the digi pack to the 3 house colour rule of grey, black and red because these are the most common colour that I will be using in the music video and the website.

To include the female body I have included only one shot so that it is not overly exposed. The shot will be taken from behind and wearing a body fitting dress to show off her body figure and how long her hair is with shadows showing the definition of the face shape.

Though-out the digipack I ave hidden most of the artist face so in the final image none of her face will be hidden but her eyes will be shut, this is to carry on the idea that the artists like to hidden in some sort of way. It also will be the brightest photo but she will still be wearing black.

Tutorial for Ink Drops for Music Video

On the 9th of October 2015

I have started to look into how to create looks that I am hoping to achieve in my music video so that when it comes to the time that I begin shooting I do not end up wasting time on looking up how to do them. So today I found tutorial on how to create the footage of ink drops of the music video on how to actual create the footage.

The second video that I have added to the post shows it as a moving video. It also shows exactly how i want to have the ink looking but in colour, whilst in my music video I aim to have it in black and white only if it works with then the title of the song and the name of the artist showing up on the clear side of the screen.

Website Development

As a rough design on how I want my final website to look like, I feel that I have made it successful by keeping it simple for a wide range of ages. Even though I have the original idea of using a three colour house rule I have decided to keep that mind but I do like the idea of black and white but with splash’s of different colour so that everything can stand out bold and minimal. I have decided this because of the demographics research of the answers I received.

I feel like I could of improved by having more effective photos but I am able to change this when it comes to my final product. I will have better photos and better condition of the shop page as this looks basic and done with no care.

By taking part in this task, it has helped me decide on what type of photos I will want to include in my final product of the website. The skills I have developed by doing this include how to create a smooth slideshow of images on the home page, understanding how missing out of bold menu bars can make the website look too simple and not showing any website developing skills. It has also given me an idea on how long I need to spend on the website to make it impressive and ideal of my target audience.

Timeline of the Music Video

Producing a timeline was a useful activity so I can stick to a similar pattern pf the timeline when it comes to producing my music video. I also found it useful because it creates an idea of how my music video will run. Even if I do not stick it this exact timeline in my actual video it will help me remember what I need to include and key timing points in the music video.

Synopsis of Video

Performance

The performance of my music video will be surreal and containing movement of everyday life such as affection between couples who are involved in the music video. Parts in the video will hate surreal movement such as the editing background in the video. The video will not be a constant narrative as these video begin to get boring but separating between the two create a better climax throughout the video. The video will include kaleidoscope animations along with the narrative. This type of editing has inspired me from the video by Beyonce called Mine and the original video of Brain by BANKS.

Concept

The concept of my video is that is lyrically matches the song. In the lyrics BANKS mentions the word "Brain" multiple of times, the way i am going to represent the Brain is through the animations but as the song gets closer to the climax, the colour and the pace of the animations will change to match the song. Whilst the chorus of the song isn't going on, the narrative will be taking place, this will be of two people talking but not directly but lip sinking the lyrics. The second place will be the forrest area of a flashback of the couple before the chorus. I want it to look like the way the couples were before hand is really romantic but its been ruined by the man, thats why I plan for the animation just to cut harshly from the narrative. By the tone of her voice, she sounds more passionate and less calm.

Locations

I will have three visible locations in the music video, but to produce the imagery that I want I have to use a few more. The visible locations in the video will be the forest/woods that will be placing the narrative where the positive view of the song is shown. The second location will be a studio which will just appear as a white background, this will contain one person on the screen one by one signing one line of the song, but the pace of them switching along with the song to continue the way Andrew Goodwin said to create a successful music video. The third and final location will be surreal but just seen as a black background with the animations but slightly seeing the artist in the background.
